Factors Affecting the Grade and Recovery of Fluorite

1.Grinding particle size (grinding fineness)

In the mineral processing, grinding fineness is one of the most important factors affecting the ore dressing index, which directly affects the final concentrate ore dressing index.Through processing condition test, it is found that within a certain particle size range, the flotation index of fluorite ore concentrate in Xinjiang showed regular changes with the size of flotation grain size. When the particle size is coarse, fluorite recovery rate is high, but the grade is low; While the recovery of fluorite is low, but the grade is high when the particle size is fine. Therefore, in order to improve the recovery rate of fluorite, the grinding particle size should be reduced, and vice versa.

2.Ore pulp temperature

Fluorite usually be flotation by carboxylic acid collectors.Because of the high solidification point of carboxylic acid, therefore, the pulp temperature has significant effect on the flotation process.

Within a certain temperature range. When the temperature is high, carboxylic acids solubility increased  in pulp, it is easy to disperse, strengthen the collection capacity to fluorite and increased the recovery rate,

But if fluorite dissociation is not complete, some gangue minerals will be selected out together with fluorite, which will lead to low grade fluorite ore.

When the temperature is low, the capacity of the carboxylic acid collector is weak. Some of the better floatability of fluorite will be selected out, the grade is high at this time, but the recovery rate is low.

3. Collecting Agent

Under certain conditions, when the dosage of colleting agent is large, the recovery rate is high, but the grade is low. Generally, we increase the colleting agent dosage to improve recovery rate when roughing. When the dosage of collecting agent is small, the recovery rate is small, but grade is high. In the concentration process, generally choose less or no collector to improve the grade of the concentrate.

4. Inhibitor

The main effect of the inhibitor is to suppress gangue minerals and harmful elements in the ore. In Xinjiang fluorite ore inhibitor test, when the amount of inhibitor is low, the content of the gangue mineral calcite and barite in concentrate products is high, caused low grade of concentrate products. However, due to a grinding operation, fluorite and gangue minerals dissociation is not complete, so that part of the gangue minerals together with the fluorite was selected out, resulting in a higher recovery rate. When the amount of inhibitor is large, the grade is high, but the recovery rate is low. In the concentration process, generally add inhibitor to improve the grade of concentrate products

5. Pulp slurry

During the flotation process, the fluorite minerals with better floatability give priority to the top layer of the foam layer. When the pulp slurry level is low, the ore concentrate grade is high, but the recovery rate is low. When the pulp slurry level is high, the recovery rate is higher, but its mineral grade is low.

6. The pH of the pulp

The pH value of the pulp has a great effect on the flotation of fluorite. When using oleic acid as a collector, the pH value is 8-11, the floatability is better. When the pH value is 6, the floatability is also better. For different types of fluorite ore, the floatability of gangue minerals is also affected by the pH value is greater, thus affecting the selection effect, for example, when the use of oleic acid as a collector, the pH value of 8-9.5, fluorite and calcite floatability are better.

7.Quality of water

When collecting fluorite by using oleic acid, due to the presence of Ca2 + and Mg2 + ions in the water, research has also shown that the presence of Mg2 + will seriously interfere with the flotation of fluorite and significantly reducing the flotation effect. Therefore, the water used for fluorite flotation needs to be softened in advance.

8.Part of the middlings to be centralized to separate again and return

Experiments show that, when middlings sequentially return, part of the gangue minerals has been circulating in the flotation system and can not discard tailings which will affect flotation index. If we select part of the middlings whose gangue mineral content is higher to centralize to separate again, then return concentrate to roughing process and directly discard tailings. This return method not only reduces the load of the circulatory system, but also improves the grade and recovery of the concentrate product.

9.Mechanical Stirring Intensity

In a certain range of stirring intensity, with the increase of stirring intensity, the contact time between the chemical agent and mineral particles can be accelerated, and the flotation time can be reduced, so as to improve the recovery rate and grade of concentrate.

10.Operating Conditions

In the actual production process, due to improper management or negligence of the operator, resulting in unstable production conditions, it will also affect the mineral processing index of fluorite concentrate.
